The Scale Command SAW upgrade is rated at 8 Amps. A 15 Amp version is also available for locomotives that have up to 8 motors. Each Scale Command SAW upgrade kit features;

• Directional lighting

• Smoke unit, strobe light or Mars light control (on and off from the Cab-1)

• Electronic Scale Coil Coupler control (front and rear)**(sold separately)

• Precision motor control of up to 2 motors with an 8 amp SAW (up to 8 motors with a 15 Amp SAW) (32 speed steps)

• Accepts engine addresses from 1-99

• Optional volume control plug (allows the addition of a 10K ohm potentiometer for manual volume control) (Volume can be controlled from the Cab-1 out of the box)

• Battery back up cable for a 9 volt battery (the battery keeps the sounds from shutting down when power is turned off. A 9 volt battery DOES NOT have to be installed)

• Complete installation kit including; 2" diameter speaker, mounting hardware, program/run switch and antenna

• Command receiver (R2LC)

• Railsounds 4.0 with a sound set of your choice (if ordered with Railsounds)

• Easy to follow detailed installation manual

• Plug in style wire harnesses for all connections (some installations will require soldering)

A Scale Command SAW can be used in both steam and diesel locomotives. There is, however, a difference between steam and diesel upgrade kits;

When using the SAW to convert a diesel we recommend you use the on board "Rev Generator". The Rev Generator will tell the Railsounds when to ramp up and ramp down based on speed.

For steam applications we recommend using our reed switch. A reed switch installs on a tender truck bolster, a small magnet is adhered to the back side of a tender wheel. Each time the magnet passes the reed switch the sound system will chuff. In most instances the tender wheel is half the diameter of the locomotive's driver. With 1 magnet you will have 2 chuffs per revolution. With 2 magnets you will have a prototypical 4 chuffs per revolution.
