Railsounds 4.0 Upgrades for
8 & 15 Amp Drivers
Railsounds 4.0 upgrade kits are available in several different configurations. This particular upgrade kit is designed for use with our 8 & 15 Amp AC & DC Drivers. Because some applications do not have enough space to accommodate one of our larger conversion boards where Command Control and Railsounds 4.0 are built into the same board we have designed these Railsounds 4.0 upgrades. The 8 & 15 Amp Drivers combined with the Railsounds 4.0 upgrade kit for the 8 & 15 Amp drivers is essentially the same circuit as our popular SAW board, only it is two separate boards instead of one.
The Railsounds 4.0 upgrade connects to the 8 & 15 Amp Drivers with 5 simple wires. Each diesel Railsounds upgrade includes our own on board rev generator (which tells the Railsounds when to ramp up and down). Each steam Railsounds upgrade includes a reed switch and rare earth magnet (which generates the chuff sounds based on wheel revolution as opposed to motor voltage).
Each Railsounds 4.0 for 8 & 15 Amp Drivers delivers the same high quality sound you have come to expect from Railsounds. Every Railsounds 4.0 upgrades delivers the following sound features;
- Start up and shut down sounds
- Horn or whistle and bell
- TowerCom and CrewTalk
- Engine specific locomotive sounds
- Squealing brakes
- Volume control from the Cab-1 remote
- Coupler firing sounds
- Engine RPM sounds & steam chuffing (when train is moving)
- Steam blow down and air release (steam sounds only)
Each Railsounds 4.0 upgrade kit includes the following components;
- Railsounds motherboard with either a rev generator or a reed switch and rare earth magnet (dependent upon sound type)
- Railsounds 4.0 audio and power board
- 2" diameter high performance speaker w/ 8" plug
- Double sided tape for secure mounting
- Detailed installation instructions are included with the 8 & 15 Amp Drivers
If you have alreay purchased a Lionel Railsounds 4.0 upgrade for a Railsounds Ready locomotive you only need to purchase the Railsounds Motherboard. You can then use the two Railsounds cards you have to complete the installation. Please note that diesel sounds will require a Motherboard with a VCO and steam sounds will require a Motherboard with a reed switch.
Regardless of whether you are using an AC or DC Driver the Railsounds 4.0 upgrade kits are the same. The price list below indicates the current selection of Railsounds 4.0 sound sets. Sound samples are coming soon!
